LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

"...No matter who we work with, we never forget where we are standing. We always start our work from this place, with our feet solidly positioned on the land on which we live, land that was never surrendered."

I want to deeply acknowledge and offer respect to the lÉ™k̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples of the Songhees and Esquimalt nations and the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples on whose traditional territory I live and work as an uninvited white settler woman.

I also respectfully acknowledge the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka'wakw peoples of what is known as "Vancouver Island"

I also acknowledge that land acknowledgments are not enough and my work and learning/unlearning in decolonizing myself and my practices is both flawed and ongoing.

I am dedicated to continuing this work and I can do better.

The violence of colonialism is ongoing and I believe that wherever there is violence, there is resistance to violence, in beautiful, powerful and transformative ways.
